To achieve this goal, we kindly request the support of authors in implementing a few simple measures. Please find below a list of helpful resources and suggestions that can make a significant impact.

At CHItaly, we firmly believe in fostering an environment that promotes diversity, inclusion, and equity, beginning with the use of inclusive language. We would like to encourage authors of any track to respect the guidelines for Gender Equity and Inclusivity. We strive also to minimize obstacles that might impede access to  the resources and contributions presented at the conference. With this in mind, we cordially invite all authors to refer to the SIGCHI Accessible Writing Guide when preparing their submissions and camera-ready versions. 

To assist you in this endeavor, in addition to the guides mentioned above, we have compiled a list of practical tips below for crafting your contribution and delivering your presentation.

When creating graphs and other visual materials, consider using colors that are easily distinguishable for individuals with color blindness. The Viz-Palette and ColorBrewer are good resources for quickly assessing what your charts will look like for different types of color blindness and in using color schemes that are easy to differentiate for people with color blindness.

In order to make your presentation more accessible for people who have low vision, we recommend using high contrast, avoiding serif fonts when possible, avoiding small font sizes, and limiting your use of italics and hyphenation. Contrast Checker can assist in selecting high contrast color combinations that make content more accessible for individuals with low vision. Additionally, we strongly encourage including alt-text for figures for your manuscript or providing a brief explanation of the figure in the caption.

When including images of people in your work or illustrative/hypothetical narratives/stories, we recommend taking the time to consider the individuals being represented. One simple way to improve the diversity of representation in academic work is to include greater diversity in our stories and images. You may wish to explore online image repositories such as Disabled and Here, Iwaria and Nappy.co, all of which offer free images.
